Our course curriculum aims to challenge and encourage your students to delve deeper.

Spring 2025
Writing Enrichment

Historically, APLUS has offered Critical Reading/Writing & Math enrichment courses throughout the school year, during the Fall & Spring semesters.

We’re doing things a bit differently for Spring 2025 – here are all the details you need to know before registering for our Spring 2025 Writing Enrichment Program!

  • Spring 2025 is split into Term 1 & Term 2 (12 weeks each).

    • Term 1 (Jan 11 - Mar 29) >> Saturdays 9:30-11:30 AM

    • Term 2 (Apr 12 - Jun 14) >> Saturdays 9:30-11:30 AM and some Thursdays 5:30-7:30 PM*

    To get the most out of the Spring semester, we highly recommend you to consider registering your student for both terms for consistency and momentum.

  • This Spring, we are focusing solely on Writing to meet the rising demand and ever-growing need for this skill.

    Math services will continue to be offered through our one-on-one tutoring program throughout the Spring. Please look forward to registering for Math classes during our Summer Camp program!

  • The following are our course offerings and their respective tuition costs:

    • Writing 1 ($800/term)

    • Writing 2 ($800/term)

    • Intensive Essay Writing 1 ($860/term)

    • Intensive Essay Writing 2 ($860/term)

    • Intensive Essay Writing 3 ($960/term)

    Payment for Term 1 will be charged on December 28, 2024.
    Payment for Term 2 will be charged on March 29, 2025.

    You will be required to add a credit card on file to be used only for tuition and registration finalization. APLUS will contact you direct at the phone number provided upon registration to add one on file.

  • Registration Deadline: January 2, 2025

    • A finalized registration includes all of the documents mentioned in the “Registration Checklist” section below, completed by the registration deadline.

Submit Writing Placement Test

Select the placement test based on your student’s current grade level. Our team will get back to you with our recommendations within 3-5 business days of receiving your student’s writing sample.

Process Payment & Receive Receipt

Once you have chatted with our team about your student’s writing sample and the best-suited class for them, we will finalize your registration by charging your card on file (provided through the registration form) and sending you a confirmation receipt of your payment.

WRITING COURSES

APLUS Learning Center seeks to provide students with opportunities to focus on the practice and skills of writing.

Compared to mainstream academic English courses taught in school, APLUS Writing Enrichment courses are more demanding and focused. A student who takes the full range of our writing courses will find that the skills taught and practiced in each course are sequential and equip them with a strong toolkit to navigate the succeeding level.

Through these courses, students learn to:

  • read more challenging literature with greater skill

  • write more complex and mature compositions

  • develop independent analytical skills

  • cultivate disciplined study habits for continued academic success

All students will receive an interim report midway through the course and a final report card the last day of class.

  • Grades 4-6

    Students will perform close reading of a novel and analyze textual details to make an argument in a multi-paragraph essay.

    Writing 1-2 help students establish strong foundations, focusing on both reading and writing skill sets.

    Prerequisite: Pre-Writing Preferred or Placement Test

  • Grades 5-7

    Students will read several genres, including prose and poetry at the early high school level. Students will make complex arguments and demonstrate control over the standard conventions of English. Students taking this course should demonstrate the ability to read at an advanced level.

    Writing 1-2 help students establish strong foundations, focusing on both reading and writing skill sets.

    Prerequisite: Writing 1

  • Grades 6-8

    Students will practice several of the most common types of essays, engage in frequent class discussion, read sample exemplar essays, and take part in one-on-one student/teacher conferences to reinforce and improve their writing.

    IEW courses are designed to help students succeed with college-level writing.

    Prerequisite: Writing 1 and/or Writing 2, or Placement Test

  • Grades 7-9

    This course challenges students to practice writing different types of academic essays and focuses on structure, content, style, and mechanics. Students will engage in class discussion, read sample exemplar essays, and participate in regular one-on-one student/teacher conferences. Each IEW course builds from the previous course, and content will develop with each level.

    IEW courses are designed to help students succeed with college-level writing.

    Prerequisite: IEW 1 or Placement Test

  • Grades 8-10

    Students will continue to practice writing different types of academic essays, with a specialized focus on developing style and voice in their writing. They will engage in class discussion, read sample exemplar essays, and participate in regular one-on-one student/teacher conferences. Each IEW course builds from the previous course, and content and complexity of argument will develop accordingly.

    IEW courses are designed to help students succeed with college-level writing.

    Prerequisite: IEW2 or Placement Test

MATH COURSES

For Spring 2025, Math will continue to be offered exclusively through our one-on-one tutoring program.
